When the Storms Come

*R*

Today as I sit at my desk, I can hear the blustery March winds hitting against the house. It's a lovely day out, the sun is shining so brightly and it feels good to know that Spring is here and warmer weather is on it's way and with it various warm-weather activities! :D

The wind is so strong as it hits the house...you can hear it whistling past us and all around. It reminds me of some of the storms we've had over th years...

This tree is damaged from the wind that has hit hard against it. It's weaker now, it's bent from the struggle...but it still stands because it's roots are strong. When the storms of life come, it will fight, and it may grow "weary," but it will not be uprooted. Our God is in control even over the very wind that hits against it (Exodus 14:21; Exodus 10:19).

* * *
"Be strong and of a good courage;
be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:
for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

~ Joshua 1:9 ~

A few weeks ago, my sweet friend Rose messaged me and said that she had been reading in the gospels of the parable of the house on the rock and the house on the sand. And as she was reading it was just reminding her of our family, the struggles we've been through/are going through with my dad being out of work now for the past 2 years, and how strong our faith has been. I was completely and utterly blown away by this statement! And I'm so thankful that others can see how God is with us, because I hope and pray that it in turn it will encourage their faith for whatever struggles they may be going through right now. But I've been thinking of it ever since and what an encouragement it has been to me! :)

That really is one of my favorite parables because it is constantly reminding me that my faith is not a foundation of sand, but on Jesus Christ the Solid Rock - *nothing* can shake me - though I may fall (and will fall), I will always be safe in Him.

"There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God." ~ 1 Samuel 2:2

I found this image a little while ago, and as soon as I saw it I knew I loved it. It not only reminded me of what Rose said to me, but it reminded me of how great my God is and that my foundation in Him is *sure*, secure, steadfast, immovable!! :D The winds (trials) come and beat against me, the waters (fears) rise - but I can still stand strong because my foundation is not based on feelings or circumstances but on Jesus Christ my Saviour. And **NOTHING** can shake it for it is "founded upon a rock."

"For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock." ~ Psalm 27:5

"The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted." ~ Psalm 18:46

I just thought this might encourage some of you (as I know it has encouraged me) who may have been having a difficult time in one area or another, whether that be an emotional battle or a battle of the mind, or it be something like a loss or physical/financial struggle. There are so many things in this world to attack and make us weak. You and I both need to remember that nothing can utterly shake us if we trust Christ as our Saviour. :) "I am His and He is mine!" I know life can be very hard - as our pastor says, "we live in a broken world," and until Christ returns to make all things new, it will continue to be so. But with God on our side we can stand strong in our faith and not be shaken. :)

"...Fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee..." ~ 1 Chronicles 28:20

May the Lord strengthen you,
~Rachel~

It's been quite windy at our house too today (and the last few days, actually). It makes a good "visual" or, should I say, "environmental" example, of what you were expressing about how God is always in control of the storms around us. Thank you for writing this lovely post!

...and that house on the rock illustration is just too good. :-)

Aww. I'm so glad that you were blessed dear. But know I really can't take credit. I'm just a messenger. You and your family have been there for me so much. Your Godly friendship has meant so much to me. I love you friend.

Keep the faith. We we're headed in the right direction (even if there are storms) :)

Love and Hugs, Rose

Oh Rachel, yes! This was an encouragement to me. My dad was out of work for several years and it was SO hard. Thankfully God always provided and he still does now.

Hi Rachel,

I enjoy reading you and Jessica's blog every so often, as I continue to hold strongly to the idea of the home being a woman's sphere where she can accomplish much, whether married or unmarried.

I am now blessedly married and expecting a child this July! But I just wanted to say what an encouragement you have been and continue to be through your blog.

The other day I made some vegan apple peanut butter bars using a recipe you had shared with me many months ago. My husband loved it!

I wish you and your sister abundant joy and peace.

Blessings in Messiah,
Lina
